Sophia is now officially a crawler! I'm so proud of my little girl! About a week and a half ago (July 21 or 22) Jon was watching her and she went about 3 or 4 steps/crawls! It was so exciting, and even though I missed the first time, I got to see it later that day. She spent about 2 or 3 days just taking these slow crawls and wouldn't go very far, and then last Sunday (July 25) She started taking off! She still won't go overly fast unless there's something she REALLY wants, but she has fun just exploring. I tried to upload some videos of it, but my computer and I are fighting so I'll have to try again in a later post. :)
The other big thing is that last Friday we started weaning! Yeah, I still struggled with whether or not I wanted to and then on Friday I just decided that I was done. Of course I didn't realize that it was her 8 month birthday that day, so I felt kindof bad, but oh well. Anyway, Sophia struggled with taking a bottle a LOT the first day (and it was just breastmilk - no formula!) and so that was pretty rough, but we ended up getting her fed by giving her a snacky-treaty-cereal thingy or two and then giving her some sips of milk right after. Jon had to feed her for the first 2 feedings because she just kept trying to rip my shirt off and wouldn't take the sippy or the treat, but after that we got it down to.
One of the other big struggles that came with the weaning was that she wouldn't eat as much during one sitting the first day or two, and then she wouldn't nap well because she was hungry. And also since I was nursing her before most of her naps before, when I would give her a sippy and then try putting her to bed after she got pretty upset. So upset, in fact, that she learned how to pull herself up to a kneeling position in the crib! The only problem is, once she's in a kneeling position she can't get back down, and if I don't catch it in time then this is what happens:
This was the first time that she pulled herself up while trying to go down for a nap - before this she had only pulled herself up once or twice after she had woken up. So when I glanced in to check on her and saw her sitting up, I thought that she was awake, but nope! She was snoozing away!
And a behind shot of her sleeping. Poor girl - I had to pry her little fingers off of the bars in order to lay her down, she wasn't happy about not being breastfed before her nap. Don't worry, she does MUCH better now. :)
So yeah, that's been our life the last couple of weeks. Sophia is keeping me on my toes as she gets more and more curious and finds more things to crawl to or try to pull herself up on, and she is now taking her milk in a sippy cup much better than before (we started to only give it to her in her high chair so that she would know it's time to eat) and hopefully we'll be able to switch over to formula before the week is out and then I will be home free! :) (Say what you want about me pansying out after 8 months, but I'm actually very surprised I made it this long!)
